Chapter 19: Data and Statistical Sources

"While not all librarians need to be data experts, they still need to understand the types and usage of data; know how it can be evaluated, accessed, and manipulated; and be able to recommend general sources of data" (p. 521). In this chapter, Celina Nichols McDonald looks at the vast amount of data available through different sources and mediums, which can make data and statistics reference questions a daunting task for librarians. The chapters looks at different official resources from originating agencies or government bodies, including some Canadian and United Nations resources, as well as some unofficial databases available.
