Period Study: Relations between Greek states and between Greek and non-Greek states, 492–404 BC

This component covers the years 492 to 404 BC, and focuses specifically on the nature of two sets of relations: the relations between different Greek cities, and the relations between Greek cities and the Persian Empire and its peoples. The fifth century is the first period in Greek history that modern historians have a wide variety of source material to work from, and so is particularly stimulating period to study: you will be able to examine evidence from both the Greek and the Persian side, and from inscriptional and narrative accounts of events and peoples.
