DS 1: The Politics and Society of Sparta, 478-404 BC

This depth study covers the social, political and military aspects of Spartan society from 478 to 404 BC. Many of the sources are from outside this period, but refer to specific events and individuals within the period. This period was one of great change within the Greek world, and more widely within the Mediterranean area. How Sparta reacted to these external pressures, and to the internal pressures of her own unique situation and constitution, is what makes this period so fascinating.
