About the Author

Dietmar Sternad is Professor of International Management and Program Director of the International Business Management master’s program at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences/Fachhochschule Kärnten (Austria).

He teaches several management and leadership-related subjects in undergraduate, graduate, and executive education programs. He has also given lectures and guest lectures at universities and business schools in Belgium, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Poland, and Slovenia, is an alumnus of the IMTA (CEEMAN) and GloColl (Harvard Business School) management teachers’ programs and has received several national and international awards for creating case-based teaching materials and for teaching excellence. He is the first management professor to receive the Austrian State Prize for Teaching Excellence “Ars docendi.”

Dietmar holds degrees from the Open University (Bachelor of Science), the University of Graz (Magister rer.soc.oec.), IEDC Bled School of Management (MBA) and the University of Klagenfurt (Doctorate in Social and Economic Sciences). In his prior managerial career, he was the Managing Director of one of Austria’s leading trade book publishing groups and the CEO of Slovenia’s highest-circulation daily newspaper. He also contributed to the founding of a market-leading cooking website, developed and led several in-house executive leadership education programs for multinational enterprises, and works as a strategy consultant.

Dietmar has (co-)authored and (co-)edited several books, among them Strategic Adaptation (Springer, 2011), Handbook of Doing Business in South East Europe (Palgrave Macmillan, 2011), Grundlagen Export und Internationalisierung (in German; Springer, 2013), Digging Deeper: How Purpose-Driven Enterprises Create Real Value (Greenleaf Publishing, 2016), and Qualitatives Wachstum (in German; Springer, 2018).

His research has been published in a range of different scientific journals. His current research interests center on responsible and long-term-oriented management and leadership practices, the qualitative growth strategies of companies, and internationalization strategies for small and medium-sized enterprises.
