Online Resources
The list that follows is of online resources of interest to writers, students, and teachers of writing. It is by no means exhaustive, and the hope is that others will suggest more resources. In curating this list, we are looking for organizations and occasionally publications that present valuable, free services to writers. Where there is a subscription or other paid service, it is up to writers to decide whether the service is worth it at their stage in their career. We have also avoided listing individual literary magazines or state or provincial organizations.
Some paid services, like Duotrope submission tracking service, offer free information if you follow them on social media or sign up for an email newsletter. Others like the writers guilds or associations may have membership dues, but have information for non-members as well or are well-known organizations worth knowing about even before you are ready to join.
Some magazines, like Publisher’s Weekly, have sections devoted to writers and creative writing programs that are freely available, or CLMP, which has an index of magazines and a literary magazine adoption program that may be useful to instructors. A few, like the OWL at Purdue and Writing@CSU are more for composition studies, but have sections on creative writing and teaching creative writing.
