  • International Migration Institute (IMI), University of Amsterdam
    IMI’s website presents information on its initiatives and its research programmes, such as the African Migrations Programme, the African Perspectives on Human Mobility and Transnational Migrants Organisations projects. Its website provides access to a working paper series, articles and books, an online directory of African migration researchers and an online library with references on African migration.
  • African Centre for Migration & Society (ACMS), University of the Witwatersrand
    The ACMS is Africa’s leading scholarly institution for research and teaching on human mobility. It offers Africa’s only post-graduate degrees in migration and displacement studies and provides training to students and professionals in areas such as the sociology of migration, mobility and health, human rights, and research methods. Their website provides details of their courses, modules, research and staff.
  • Center for Migration Studies, New York
    The Centre for Migration Studies publishes a journal, a newsletter, and various books and papers on migration, refugees, and ethnic groups. The site gives access to the complete publications list and the table of contents of the most recent issues of the International Migration Review.
  • Centre for Migration Studies, University of Ghana
    The CMS is focussed on carrying out research, teaching, training, capacity building, policy assessment, development and dissemination in the area of migration research. It is the only centre in the West African sub-region offering MA/MPhil and PhD programmes in migration studies. The website offers information about their courses, research activities and publications.
  • European Research Centre on Migration and Ethnic Relations (ERCOMER), Utrecht University
    The European Research Centre on Migration and Ethnic Relations (ERCOMER) exists to actively encourage, support and promote comparative research in the fields of international migration and ethnic relations within the European context. The site gives access to publications, projects, seminars. In addition, ERCOMER’s Virtual Library (VL) offers a global organisation of various conferences, seminars, exhibitions, workshops, (summer) schools, courses and cultural events, which are frequently updated and can be added by users.
  • Gulf Labour Markets, Migration, and Population (GLMM) Programme
    The Gulf Labour Markets, Migration and Population (GLMM) programme is an international independent, non-partisan, non-profit joint programme of a major Gulf think tank, Gulf Research Center, and a globally renowned academic migration centre, the Migration Policy Centre. The website provides data, analyses, and recommendations contributing to the improvement of understanding and management of Gulf labour markets, migration and population.
  • Immigration History Research Centre (IHRC), University of Minnesota
    The IHRC has built one of the largest and most important collections of materials documenting U.S. immigration and refugee life. Its site provides access to many resources, including working papers, research collections, publications, calls for papers and grants and fellowships, as well as resources for educators, students and the community.
  • Institute for Migration and Ethnic Studies (IMES), Amsterdam
    The IMES site provides access to information on its research programmes, its academic staff, research projects, various publications (some of which are available to download) as well as policy briefs and events, such as its public lecture series.
  • International Network on Migration and Development, Autonomous University of Zacatecas
    The International Network on Migration and Development (INMD) is a global network of researchers, academic institutions and migrant organizations that promotes critical research on the complex ties between development, international migration and human rights. Their website features information about their journals, research, news and other activities.
  • Inter-University Committee on International Migration
    This Committee, chaired by MIT and acting as a focal point for migration and refugee studies at Boston University, Brandeis University, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Harvard University, MIT, Tufts University, and Wellesley College, sponsors seminar series on international migration, workshops, conferences and working paper series. The site provides descriptions of its activities and publications such as working papers and reports.
  • Migration Observatory, University of Oxford
    The Migration Observatory provides evidence-based analysis of data on migration and migrants in the UK, to inform media, public and policy debates. On their website you can find out about their current projects and publications, and it also features a helpful glossary.
  • Migration Policy Centre (MPC), European University Institute, Florence
    The MPC conducts advanced research on the transnational governance of international migration, asylum and mobility, with the aim of informing major European and global policy debates. The website contains a blog, information about the training they offer and a summer school, and information about their research in areas such as migration governance, labour markets, foreign aid and development.
  • Migration Research Center at Koç University (MiReKoc), Istanbul
    MiReKoc aims to advance the state of the art in migration research through original and innovative scholarship, academic collaboration, and dialogue between researchers, policy-makers, international organizations and civil society actors. The website has details about their conferences and seminars, in addition to a searchable resource center.
  • Migration Dialogue
    Migration Dialogue provides timely, factual and nonpartisan information and analysis of international migration issues through five major activities: the newsletters Migration News and Rural Migration News, Changing Face and other Research & Seminars, and the Sloan West Coast Program on Science and Engineering Workers.
  • Scalibrini Migration Center, Quezon City
    Established in the Philippines in 1987, the SMC is a research organization dedicated to the study of international migration and the promotion of understanding the multi-faceted dimensions of migration in the Asia-Pacific region. See their website for information about their publications, research and events.
  • Southern African Migration Programme
    SAMP is an international network of organizations founded in 1996 to promote awareness of migration-development linkages in the Southern African Development Community (SADC). SAMP conducts applied research on migration and development issues, provides policy advice and expertise, offers training in migration policy and management, and conducts public education campaigns on migration-related issues.
  • Swiss Forum for Migration and Population Studies
    The Swiss Forum for Migration and Population Studies (SFM) is an institute of the University of Neuchatel that conducts scientific research in the fields of migration and demographic issues. Its website offers insight into its research areas and publications, including the FORUM magazine, discussion papers, scientific arguments and selected bibliographies. The SFM owns the most important Swiss library on migration with a collection that includes over 15,000 titles, 6,000 of which are related to migration in Switzerland. All titles are listed in the SFM’s online catalogue.
  • The Hugo Observatory on Environment, Migration, Politics
    A research center committed to the study of interactions between environmental changes, human migration, and politics. The website provides information about their projects, past and present, and the various courses their members offer at the University of Liège.
  • Migration Matters
    A non-profit organization that aims to empower the public to have more nuanced and evidence-based conversations about migration. Their engaging website contains short, educational videos on topics related to migration and diversity, such as a whole series on populism. Videos feature perspectives from leading thinkers in the field including researchers, practitioners, as well as migrants and refugees themselves.
  • European Council on Refugees and Exiles (ECRE)
    ECRE is an alliance of 104 NGOs across 41 European countries, with a mission to protect and advance the rights of refugees, asylum-seekers and other forcibly displaced persons in Europe and in Europe’s external policies. The website features two useful databases –– one on Asylum Information, one on Asylum Law – as well as hosting The European Legal Network on Asylum (ELENA), a forum of legal practitioners.
  • Forced Migration Review (FMR)
    The most widely read publication on forced migration, established in 1987. The website includes links to yet more resources relating to refugees, IDPs and statelessness.
  • Refugee Studies Centre (RSC), University of Oxford
    Founded in 1982, and part of the Oxford Department of International Development, the RSC aims to build knowledge and understanding of forced migration in order to help improve the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people. In addition to news about their publications and events, the website provides some useful case studies.
  • United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR)
    The UN Refugee Agency, a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. The website is packed full of information, from information on UN Conventions to the latest news and emergency situations around the world.
  • International Metropolis Project
    Metropolis is an international network for comparative research and public policy development on migration, diversity, and immigrant integration in cities in Canada and around the world. In addition to information on its annual conference, the site, available in French and English, provides access to information on its research and policy initiatives and publications such as the Metropolis World Bulletin and the Journal of International Migration and Integration.
  • International Organization for Migration (IOM)
    On its site the IOM presents a wide collection of material about the agency and its activities in various countries around the world. In addition, the site provides access to information on migration research and policy initiatives, training programmes, events and a large selection of downloadable publications, including newsletters, studies and reports, brochures, informational sheets and serial publications.
  • Migration and inclusive societies, Social and Human Sciences, UNESCO
    UNESCO’s mission is to promote the building of peace, eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information. The Organization places emphasis on the human face of migration and addresses the implications of the movement of people within its fields of competence, drawing on relevant human rights principles and standards. The website offers a summary of the International Migration Convention.
  • Labour Migration Programme, International Labour Organization (ILO)
    The International Migration Programme (MIGRANT) is the mainstream unit responsible for labour migration in the ILO, undertaking a number of activities on priority areas of labour migration. On these pages MIGRANT provides information of its areas of work, publications and studies, the International Labour Migration Database and reports with statistical information on labour migration and the state of migrant workers around the world.

    OECD’s work on international migration is based on continued monitoring of migration movements and policies in member countries and outside the OECD area, and in-depth analysis of the economic and social aspects of migration. The site offers information on OECD’s work on the economic implications of migration as well as international migration policies and statistical data.
